the parting of the ways

Well, I have been a big Rudy supporter and he went nowhere in the primaries so my allegiance to him is over. I am definitely parting ways with him with regards to who to support for President. I would vote for McCain in the general election, but won't support him in the upcoming Colorado caucus. I'm going to follow Patrick Ruffini and support Mitt Romney.

I hate the state of Florida!

I really hate the state of Florida. I've never really liked it. I've been down there. Its flat. Its hot and humid. There's no lithologic diversity (all limestone!). Now those boneheads are rejecting the best candidate in the race (Rudy Giuliani) and might even give the win to John McCain. What is wrong with those people? Oh yeah... they're living in Florida! There must be something wrong with you if you want to live down in that sauna state.

guest editorial by Rudy Giuliani on space policy

Rudy Giuliani has a guest editorial in Florida Today on his space policy. This is really good stuff... too bad I just saw a tag line on another web page that he's now polling fourth (?!? presumably behind the loathsome Huck-a-dope). It isn't looking good for Rudy pulling it out, but then the pollsters had that New Hampshire democrat primary so spot on...

Giuliani proposes increase in NASA budget!

Here is a story that Rudy Giuliani has proposed an increase in NASA's budget. Sure, he's trying to get more Space Coast voters to vote for him, but he's on record now so hopefully he can do better than current polls are predicting and win Florida.

the honorary co-captain of the NY Giants

Amazing story here about a wounded Iraq war veteran who has become the honorary co-captain of the NY Giants.  Hugh Hewitt read this on his radio show and the story really got to me.

the case for Rudy Giuliani by Dennis Prager

Good column by Dennis Prager on the case for Rudy Giuliani. I sure hope Rudy can pull a win out of Florida. It is kind of looking like a long shot, but we'll see...

There's an article at space.com (here) describing the Rudy Giuliani meeting with space industry leaders... now he has to start winning some primaries!

Giants in the Super Bowl!!!

WOW! What a game! Who would have thought at the start of the season that the Giants would be going to the Super Bowl, but they are. Kudos to Eli Manning and the whole team they have really been playing their hearts out lately. Let's hope they can step it up a notch and take down the Patriots.

alternatives to the VSE

Interesting Aviation Week & Space Technology article on a meeting of aerospace leaders to craft an alternative to the current Vision for Space Exploration.  I have to say that I tend to agree with these meeting participants.  A key paragraph quote is:

""It's becoming painfully obvious that the Moon is not a stepping-stone for manned Mars operations but is instead a stumbling block," says Robert Farquhar, a veteran of planning and operating planetary and deep-space missions."

It would be easier to have missions to near Earth asteroids and that would be much more of a "stepping stone" to Mars than a lunar base.  Who knows what will happen?  It will all be up to the next president.

Rudy Giuliani meets with space industry representatives

Rudy Giuliani met with space industry representatives in Port Canaveral and said that the projected five year gap in U.S. human spaceflight between shuttle and Orion is "unacceptable". There is a short write-up here. Hopefully something more substantive is out there and if I find that I'll link it here.

Every vote must count... unless you're not voting for Hillary

You know I recall from 2000 that there were a lot of Democrats saying that "every vote must count". I guess today that would be "every vote must count... unless you're not voting for Hillary Clinton". I mean that is the gist of the Clinton-backed lawsuit in Nevada where they're trying to keep casino workers from caucusing at work.

Huckabee: a vote for theocracy

Mike Huckabee is like a secular progressive's stereotype of a Republican come to life. He had a speech today where we said we need to: "amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards rather than try to change God's standards". Unbelievable.

On "the Corner" at NRO online, Andy McCarthy really got a good perspective on how pernicious this type of rhetoric is:

"... it's really infuriating if you've had the experience — as I have — of being portrayed at various panels as part of the "American Taliban" for defending the purportedly Islamophobic efforts to root out Muslim terrorists. Part of my usual response, as a demonstration of how nuts this accusation is, focuses on the Taliban, their imposition of sharia (i.e., God's law), and the marked contrast to our system's bedrock guarantee of freedom of conscience.

Huckabee is made to order for the Left: his rhetoric embodies their heretofore lunatic indictment that we're no better that what we're fighting against. Let's "amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards rather than try to change God's standards"? Who needs to spin when the script speaks for itself? Where has Huck been for the last seven years? Does he not get that our enemies — the people who want to end our way of life — believe they are simply imposing God's standards?"

Oy vey!

Very pessimistic column by George Will about Republican chances for November. I'd like to be able to pick holes in it and say how much I disagree with him, but with John McCain and Mike Huckabee as the two frontrunners now, if anything I'd say the Republicans would get creamed even worse with one of them at the top of the ticket.

The failure of multiculturalism according to Christopher Hitchens

There is an interesting interview/profile here of Christopher Hitchens. I especially like his explanation of how including Islamists in a multi-cultural mosaic is impossible:

“The Islamists will try to spoil everything for everyone,” he says. “The crucial thing is not to admit that they are also part of the gorgeous mosaic of multiculturalism – you can’t be part of it if you want to kill all the Hindus or the Jews.”
